Annual Waste Transfer Notes Explained

What is a Waste Transfer Note? Any business that produces, handles or disposes of controlled waste has a legal obligation to make sure that it is managed correctly under the ‘Duty of Care’ legislation and ‘Waste Transfer Notes’ or WTNs make up part of this process. Every transfer of waste between two parties must be covered with appropriate documentation, for non-hazardous waste a Waste Transfer Note and for hazardous waste, a Consignment Note – speak to Cawleys’ specialist team for more advice about dealing with hazardous waste. The Duty of Care legislation requires that all waste is stored correctly and is properly contained; only collected by a register waste carrier such as Cawleys and all collections are covered by a valid WTN. Award win: Green Apple Award Food Waste Reduction

The Cawleys Group, in partnership with Trinity Leeds shopping centre, celebrated winning the Food Waste Reduction award at the recent International Green Apple Awards for Environmental Practice ceremony held in London at the House of Commons. The Green Organisation acknowledged the new Leeds retail centre and The Cawleys Group, consisting of recycling and waste management company Cawleys and stakeholder engagement specialists Veris Strategies, for their recent ‘Make Your Mark’ campaign. The project launched in December 2014 in over 117 of Trinity Leeds retail outlets and in less than a year the project has had a massive impact in recycling and waste practices. Last month we mentioned being short listed in the Chartered Institute of Waste Management (CIWM) Award category for “Best Resources Project by Facilities Management” and now we’re delighted to say that our client Trinity Leeds won the award. The award recognises the results which the ‘Make Your Mark’ recycling and waste reduction and community outreach campaign has achieved at the new Leeds shopping centre. Delivered by the Cawleys and its partner company, Veris Strategies, the ‘Make Your Mark’ campaign has helped Trinity Leeds achieve outstanding resource management results in less than a year. New staff engagement initiatives, such as monthly rewards for the best performing retail tenants, and new recycling schemes including reclassifying all resources to make it easier to understand recycling categories, has led to an 83 per cent overall recycling rate and a zero waste to landfill achievement.
