Anna Cawley joins board of directors

2017 is a year of celebration for Cawleys, as we mark our 70th anniversary in business and the appointment of our first woman to the board, Anna Cawley. A recent study by Credit Suisse said companies with at least one woman director received a better return on their investments compared with companies with all-male boardrooms. Cawleys has certainly been delivering impressive results recently, increasing profit and revenue by 30 percent in the past three years, while delivering innovation and investment across the business. Here Cawleys’ Director of Sales and Resource, Tony Goodman, talks about why he feels passionate about the Extra Mile Challenge… This will be my fifth “Extra Mile Challenge” but I haven’t done the ride since 2009.  It felt right to do it again this year as it’s the 10th anniversary since the death of our colleague Gary. This feels a great way to remember him and to do some good work raising money for charity in his name. I love cycling and have spent a huge amount of time on bikes. The last time I did the “Extra Mile Challenge” was at a time when I was out on my bike all the time. Health and safety industry expert, William Furniss, will work with teams across the Cawleys business to further strengthen the company’s safety culture. The waste management industry plays a vital role in our society, processing the 228 million tonnes of waste which is generated in the UK each year, and employing over 160,000 workers, or 0.5 per cent of all employees in Britain. Ensuring safe and healthy work places is vital for these people, and for the closed loop economy as a whole. Cawleys is one of the largest, independent, family owned waste management businesses in the south east, employing 250 staff, and will soon be celebrating seventy years in business.
