Anna Cawley Director of Customer Services

Anna Cawley joins board of directors

2017 is a year of celebration for Cawleys, as we mark our 70th anniversary in business and the appointment of our first woman to the board, Anna Cawley. A recent study by Credit Suisse said companies with at least one woman director received a better return on their investments compared with companies with all-male boardrooms. Cawleys has certainly been delivering impressive results recently, increasing profit and revenue by 30 percent in the past three years, while delivering innovation and investment across the business. Anna says: “We’ve made significant investments in improving the business using technology and innovation, making customer service a top priority.  Every business, including waste management, is about people, providing a great service and experience.” Cawleys was the first company in the UK to provide a commercial food waste collection service in the UK in 2008 working with retail chain Waitrose.  We are unusual in owning and operating our […]

Cawleys Extra Mile Cycle Team Tony Goodman

The Cawleys Extra Mile Challenge: Team member – Tony Goodman

Here Cawleys’ Director of Sales and Resource, Tony Goodman, talks about why he feels passionate about the Extra Mile Challenge… This will be my fifth “Extra Mile Challenge” but I haven’t done the ride since 2009.  It felt right to do it again this year as it’s the 10th anniversary since the death of our colleague Gary. The last time I did the “Extra Mile Challenge” was at a time when I was out on my bike all the time. Stamina and fitness I’ve still got all my kit – some great bikes which were new then like my Willier which is still really good bike and the one I’ll be taking to France for this […]

Cawleys welcomes new health and safety leader

Health and safety industry expert, William Furniss, will work with teams across the Cawleys business to further strengthen the company’s safety culture. The waste management industry plays a vital role in our society, processing the 228 million tonnes of waste which is generated in the UK each year, and employing over 160,000 workers, or 0.5 per cent of all employees in Britain. Ensuring safe and healthy work places is vital for these people, and for the closed loop economy as a whole. Cawleys is one of the largest, independent, family owned waste management businesses in the south east, employing 250 staff, and will soon be celebrating seventy years in business. While innovation is central to the business, for example Cawleys has its own state of the art Materials Recycling Facility (MRF) in Luton, so too is health and safety.  William, now in charge of Health and Safety at Cawleys will […]

Cawleys company values

Cawleys was established in 1947 making us one of the most experienced, independently owned waste management businesses in the south east.  We were the first company in the UK to offer a commercial food waste management service, and have won numerous awards for the quality of our service provision. This includes being the first business to win the prestigious Waitrose Way, Treading Lightly Award for Waste Management, for our approach to work for Waitrose and its supply chain in 2013. We remain determined and energetic in our approach to waste management, always looking for a technological or behavioural solution in answer to the growing concerns about resource management and environmental probity in the 21st century. The Cawleys company values are visualised in this diagram, driven by our key qualities of ambition, vision and energy. For a waste management service to work well for customers it has to be based on a highly […]
