Cawleys is the first industrial and commercial waste collection company in the UK to join the DVSA Earned Recognition Pilot Scheme

The government's Driver and Vehicle Standards Agency (DVSA) has just launched its Earned Recognition pilot scheme, and we're proud to announce that Cawleys one of just 31 companies taking part, and the only waste management company in the UK to be involved at this stage.

Earned Recognition is a new way of recognising safe and responsible vehicle operators. It proves to our customers that we are ultra compliant; committed to the very highest standards in vehicle maintenance and management.

Through a system of connected, real time monitoring, Cawleys will be connected with the DVSA, proving that we meet driver and vehicle standards against key performance targets (KPI).  Every organisation  taking part will be marked and measured by the DVSA every four weeks against the following KPIs:

  • 100% safety rated defect rectifications

  • 100% service inspections

  • 95% MOT pass rate

  • 4% tachograph infringements

All the assessment and monitoring of our vehicles takes place on line, giving a dramatic reduction in the amount of time and paper work involved in maintaining and proving proper compliance, and we have introduced new software, R2C to make it possible.  The aim of the scheme which will be officially launched to the whole commercial transport industry in April 2018 is to build a much great degree of trust and cooperation between the DVSA and transport operators.

Phil Gudgeon, our Director of Waste Collection and Logistics said:

“Transportation efficiency and safety is central to a good waste management service.  It makes complete sense to be part of this pilot scheme, as part of our business ethos.  The scheme covers everything we do already but just makes the whole process so much more efficient and open.  It can only be a positive thing for our industry.”

“It was a very rigorous process to take part in the pilot, involving a 28 page document and onsite auditing, but again this is only a good thing for our industry as a whole and something I’m really proud Cawleys has spearheaded, even if it did take over my life for a while…” Phil continued.

As a business Cawleys has a reputation for being an early adopter of many innovations in the waste management sector, including Anaerobic Digestion (AD) for commercial food waste; investment in our own Material Recycling Facility (MRF) and most recently becoming a partner with bio-bean for recycling coffee waste. Taking part in the DVSA Earned Recognition pilot is another example of our determination to offer the best possible waste management service, keeping our customers ahead of the curve.

“Being part of the Earned Recognition pilot scheme proves we are ultra compliant. Customers are, rightly, demanding even greater recycling transparency and we are delighted to offer that for every aspect of our service, including vehicle management” concluded Anna Cawley, Director of Customer Services.
