Biofuel

Biofuel is considered to be the most pure and readily available fuel on the planet.

They are classified into gas, liquid and solid form derived from biomass which is obtained from plants and animals and their by products.

Most importantly, biomass is a renewable source of energy unlike other natural resources such as coal and petrol. All of Cawleys’ food waste recycling lorries run on biofuel.

The Process

As there are several different types of Biofuels (e.g. Biodiesel, bioethanol etc.) there are also different methods of producing biofuel.

Waste vegetable oil, for example, is converted into biodiesel through a chemical process that produces methyl or ethyl ester. After washing and filtering the oil through various heating processes it can be used as an alternate renewable fuel.
