Our new £3.5 million commercial and industrial Materials Recycling Facility in Luton is currently going through some rigorous testing to ensure that the high tech automated sorting equipment and balers are ready for the 150,000 tonnes of waste per year we will be processing! Initial testing of the machinery indicates that as much as 50% if not more of all waste delivered to the facility will be diverted from landfill and recycled.
This new state of the art recycling facility will process and pre treat the waste it collects from all our commercial customers in accordance with the EU pre-treatment directive, which was introduced in October last year. The MRF will use a combination of cutting edge technology such as trommels, picking stations, screens, magnets and air separators to extract cardboard, paper, plastics, wood and metal from the waste.
Here at Cawleys we firmly believe in investing in green recycling technologies consistent with our mantra of reduction, re-use and recycling. A recent study for the European Commission found that separating waste at source followed by recycling (for paper, metals, textiles and plastics) and composting or anaerobic digestion (for organic wastes) gives the lowest net flux of greenhouse gases, compared with other options for the treatment of bulk mixed waste.
The other major advantage of our facility over more conventional methods is that trade and commercial waste producers do not need to segregate their wastes prior to collection. This avoids the need for multiple handling and specialised containers, particularly if you suffer from a space restricted environment.
So by using Cawleys to manage your waste and recycling you can be assured of the most environmentally friendly service for each individual waste stream. If you would like to come and view our new facility in action please contact Mandy Jacob on 01582 509 613 or email mandy.jacob@cawleys.co.uk
