Cawleys is delighted to launch the UK's first national food waste collection service to AD in 2010 and to support this have released an Eco eating research study to investigate consumers attitudes towards commercial food waste recycling.
This research highlights the genuine and keenly-felt concern that consumers have about food waste recycling, both in the home and when they eat out. It is further confirmation that none of us can afford to ignore the issue of food waste.
As the world's population grows, and pressure on finite resources becomes greater, we all have a responsibility adopt the mantra `Reuse, reduce and recycle' when it comes to waste. Some food waste is and always will be inevitable, yet the the massive environmental damage caused by dumping waste food in landfill is not. Using green technologies like anaerobic digestion (AD), we can avoid the emission of harmful greenhouse gasses and make a positive contribution to environmental targets.
AD itself is not new, so we have to ask ourselves, why have businesses been putting food into landfill when there are technologies out there that can turn it into electricity and heat for our homes and workplaces? The answer is that until now there simply hasn’t been a nationwide environmentally responsible food waste collection and recycling solution available for national restaurant and hotel chains. This is now about to change and, as an environmentally-responsible waste management business, Cawleys is spearheading this drive.
Using the AD route will not only help businesses to meet carbon emission targets and contribute with confidence to initiatives like 10/10, but will also genuinely address consumer concerns about the destination of food waste.
