Please help us raise money for Leonard Cheshire Disability!

Yes it’s that time of year again, Cawley employees are getting into their athletic spirit ready for this years’ Extra Mile Massif Challenge on the 26th - 28th September 2008.

This years’ route promises to be the most ambitious challenge we’ve taken part in yet, taking us from the north of France past Paris & Fontainebleau into the Loire Valley and Bourges, and on to the Massif Central to finish at the foot of Puy de Dôme near Vichy. The 500 miles will be covered by relay over just three days and as if this challenge were not enough there is an optional opportunity to cycle up the Puy de Dôme, a famous Tour de France stage finish at 1,415m!

Our team, The Recyclers, is hoping their efforts will raise over £10,000 which will be divided equally between the Leonard Cheshire Disability charity and charities nominated by the Extra Mile team.

Leonard Cheshire Disability is the largest voluntary sector provider of care and support services for disabled people. The charity is well known locally for its care home at Ampthill near Bedford, but also provides all manner of support, resources, training and care across the UK.

This is now our fourth year of participation in this event, and the toughest yet, as it will be in tribute to our dear friend Gary Godleman, who passed away whilst on the ride last year. The remaining team members returned home early after the tragedy, which will make the finish line this year an emotional accomplishment. As a vibrant and dedicated team member, Gary will be deeply missed this year by all, but with his memory in mind, our team will endeavour to make it to the top.
